Ruveia is a local variety traditionally grown in the Avellino province. Its fruits are used for olive oil production; in particular, it is among the authorized varieties for the manufacture of oil with the protected geographical indication Irpinia – Colline dell'Ufita PDO.
The variety is characterized by self-incompatibility, which necessitates the presence of pollinator varieties to ensure fruit set. Scientific studies note the resistance of this cultivar to olive fruit fly infestation, as well as resistance to the causal agent of Verticillium wilt, Verticillium dahliae.
