The name SALGAR (or Salgar Redondo) is a synonym for the Picual variety. The fruits are medium-sized and oval, slightly asymmetrical in shape with a characteristic pointed tip. The variety enters the fruiting stage early and is characterized by a high oil content of 20–27% by weight.
The oil obtained from this variety has high stability and resistance to rancidity due to a significant content of oleic acid and polyphenols. The plant is noted for its endurance to various soil and climatic conditions, including cold, waterlogging, and salinity.
In scientific classifications, the variety is characterized as highly susceptible to anthracnose.
