The variety is an ancient local cultivar formed as a result of natural folk selection in the province of Campobasso. The plant is cultivated in olive orchards, often in mixtures with other local varieties of the region.

The fruits of the variety are used to produce olive oil, which possesses a delicate taste. The harvest period in the Molise region typically falls between the third ten-day period of October and the first ten-day period of December.
