The Tonda di Strongoli cultivar is native to the Calabria region in Italy. The fruits are rounded drupes weighing 4–6 grams, which are primarily used for olive oil production with a yield of over 18%. The plant is partially self-fertile; the presence of pollinators is recommended for a stable yield.
The cultivar is susceptible to olive fruit fly and olive knot. The oil from these fruits possesses a medium level of fruitiness with hints of artichoke, almond, and herbs, as well as pronounced bitterness and pungency. The cultivar is included in the list permitted for the production of oils with protected geographical indications, such as Olio di Calabria and Alto Crotonese.
