The Bosana variety, known by the synonyms Tondo Sassarese, Palma, and Olieddu, is a traditional olive variety that formed in the local gene pool of Sardinia. The plants have moderate vigor and are well adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the region, grown in both old and intensive olive groves.
The fruits of the variety have an elliptical shape, the average weight of one fruit is about 3 grams, and they turn a bright black color upon ripening. The variety is valued for the high polyphenol content in the oil. In scientific literature, the variety is considered in the context of studying its resistance to the peacock spot disease.
