The rootstock is a hybrid of Prunus cerasus and Prunus canescens. Trees grafted onto this rootstock have moderate growth vigor, exceeding the power of trees on the Gisela 5 rootstock.

The plant has medium anchorage and often requires the installation of supports due to high crop load. The rootstock adapts well to various soil types, including heavy ones, and exhibits tolerance to a number of sweet cherry viral diseases.

Gisela 6 is susceptible to aphid infestation and requires sufficient levels of soil moisture. The use of this rootstock allows for a significant increase in the planting density of trees in commercial orchards.
