The name is a historical synonym for a group of sour cherries (Prunus cerasus), also known as Kurzstielige Amarelle or Montmorency à Courte Queue. This type of plant was historically not distinguished as a separate breeding variety, but represented a collection of forms originating from wild species introduced from Asia Minor.
The fruits belong to the Amarelle type, having light-colored flesh, transparent juice, and a stone that separates easily. The plants are self-fertile, and when propagated by root suckers or seeds, the characteristics of the type are maintained. In modern commercial conditions, these forms are practically not encountered.
