The variety is an old one, known under a multitude of names, including Pastorenbirne, Kaluđerka, and Vicar of Winkfield. The tree is distinguished by its vigorous growth and is often grown in high-stem orchards.
An important characteristic of the variety is its compatibility with the quince rootstock (Cydonia oblonga), due to which it is used as an intercalary graft when grafting other pear varieties. The variety is susceptible to fire blight.
Fruits of this variety are suitable for long-term storage, exceeding 30 days.
