The variety was obtained by crossing Rhododendron catawbiense and the 'Mrs. P. D. Williams' variety. The plant forms a symmetrical shrub, reaching a height of about 2.5 meters and a crown width of about 2.3 meters by the age of 20.
The flowers are of a pale pinkish-purple shade, 7–8 cm in size, collected in inflorescences of 15–19 pieces. Flowering occurs in late May — early June. The variety is winter-hardy and suitable for landscaping parks and gardens.
