The variety was obtained by crossing Rhododendron catawbiense 'Grandiflorum' and Rhododendron 'Purple Splendour'. The shrub is broad and branched, reaching a height of about 2 meters and a width of up to 3 meters at 20 years of age.
Flowers are gathered in dense spherical inflorescences of 16–18, with wavy petal margins. The plant is characterized by winter hardiness, is adapted to the climatic conditions of the Baltic region, and is used in ornamental gardening.
