The variety is an evergreen compact shrub with a height of 0.6 to 1.5 meters. The leaves have a dark green color on top and a pronounced purple shade on the underside; young growth is often bronze.
Flowers are pale pink, bell-shaped, and gathered in rounded inflorescences. Flowering occurs in spring, from late April to June. The plant prefers semi-shaded areas with acidic, humus-rich, and well-drained soil.
The variety is winter hardy down to -15°C (USDA zone 6a). It is used in single and group plantings, for creating low hedges, and for growing in containers.
