The variety belongs to the early or mid-early ripening group and is characterized by moderate vigor. Clusters are small, dense, with short peduncles. Berries are small, round, colored pink, copper-pink, or reddish-brown, and have thick skin.
The variety has low resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and grey mold; it is also susceptible to flower drop. Yields are typically low. Wines are characterized by good acidity, restraint, and aging potential.
A technical variety used exclusively for winemaking. It differs genetically from Gewürztraminer in the absence of spicy (muscat) notes, although morphologically the varieties are practically indistinguishable.
