The German wine variety Baron (breeding number FR 455-83) was obtained from crossing Cabernet Sauvignon with Merzling, Saperavi Severny, and Saint Laurent. It is an early-ripening variety with medium vine vigor, high resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, and frost resistance down to -22°C. Bunches are small, berries are medium-sized and black. Due to the characteristics of the skin, the variety is used for the production of white, rosé, and light-colored red wines with a fruity-spicy flavor.

The table hybrid form "Baron" of Ukrainian breeding was obtained from crossing the varieties Talisman and Velika. It has an early-mid ripening period (120–125 days) and vines of above-average vigor. Bunches are large, weighing 700–800 g, cylindrical-conical in shape. Berries are dark blue, large, fleshy and juicy, with a harmonious taste. The variety is intended for fresh consumption and requires winter covering.
