Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety originates from the Massa-Carrara province in northern Tuscany. Genetic studies indicate that it is the result of a natural cross between the Visparola variety and an unknown parent. The vine has high vigor and is prone to forming a dense canopy, requiring regular pruning.

A wine grape variety with a mid-season maturity group, with harvest typically occurring in late September. The plant is characterized by good productivity but is susceptible to fungal diseases, particularly powdery mildew. The grapes are distinguished by a high content of anthocyanins, phenolic compounds, and tannins.

It is used primarily in blends to provide depth of color and structure, although monovarietal wines are also produced. The aromatic profile includes notes of wild berries, blackcurrant, black plum, and violet.
