Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety originates from the Jura region in France and is known by the synonyms Trousseau, Merenzao, and Bastardo. In Spain, this name may also refer to the Alfrocheiro variety. It is intended exclusively for winemaking, including the creation of dry wines and fortified ports.

The grape belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and is characterized by a mid-season maturity period. Wines are characterized by a ruby color, moderate tannins, acidity, and aromas of red and dark berries. The variety is fickle and sensitive to adverse climatic conditions, in particular to sharp temperature changes.
