Béclan N is an ancient grape variety that constitutes an independent genetic unit. The vine has moderate vigor and good fertility. The flower type is hermaphroditic. Young leaves have a bronze or reddish hue; mature leaves are dark green, three- or five-lobed.
The variety is mid-season, ripening 2–2.5 weeks after Chasselas. Bunches and berries are small; the latter have a rounded shape. Wines produced from this variety are characterized by a light hue and low alcohol content.
The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, while exhibiting increased resistance to powdery mildew and grey mold. Due to extremely small cultivation areas, it is at risk of extinction.
