The variety is a wine grape variety intended for wine production. The berries have a dark blue or black color and thin skin. Wines from this grape are characterized as light and can be produced as monovarietal or in combination with other varieties, such as Vlahiko.

The variety is adapted to mountainous conditions with a cool continental climate at altitudes of up to 700 meters. Exact agronomic characteristics, such as maturity group or resistance indicators, are not described in detail. Bekari is considered an ancient local variety with a number of synonyms, including Bekari Mavro, Bekaro, and Dimrit.
