The variety has a number of synonyms, including Sansigot, Susac, Bašćan and Sušić. Its origin is associated with the island of Susak in the Kvarner Gulf. The variety belongs to technical grape types used for the production of wines with high alcohol content.

Brajda Velika Crna matures in medium or late terms. The plant has good resistance to fungal diseases, in particular to Botrytis. The flavor profile of the wines includes notes of red cherry, plum, as well as herbaceous and earthy shades.
