The Bovale Di Spagna variety, also known as Bovale Grande or Bovali Mannu, is genetically distinct from the Bovale Sardo variety. The plant has medium vigor and a late ripening period, corresponding to the fourth epoch.

Morphological characteristics include medium-sized, cylindro-conical bunches and large black berries with thick skin and an intense waxy bloom. The leaf of the variety is medium-sized and five-lobed.

This is a wine grape variety that is rarely used on its own. It is added to blends of local wines to impart structure, deep color, and aging potential to the beverages.
