The Brakovina (Bratkovina) variety is considered indigenous to the island of Korčula, and is also found on the islands of Lastovo, Vis and on the coast of Croatia. It has a number of synonyms, including Brabkovica, Bravkovina, Brapkovina, and Pošipica (white).
Literature describes a variety called Bratkovina crvena (black). It is a mid-season variety with a bisexual, but functionally female, flower type. The vine is characterized by medium vigor; the leaf is small, five-lobed, and without pubescence. The clusters are medium-sized and dense; the berries are black, juicy, with a juice sugar content of 20–21 g/100 cm³ and an acidity of 8–10 g/dm³.
The plant has medium resistance to fungal diseases and does not tolerate excessively moist soils. The variety should be distinguished from the Ukrainian wine grape Bukovinka, with which it is sometimes erroneously confused.
