The variety is indigenous to the island of Sardinia. Its purpose is wine production, where it is used both in blends to provide structure and for creating single-varietal wines. The plant is characterized as high-yielding but difficult to cultivate, sensitive to extreme heat and berry cracking during rain.

The leaf of the plant is large, three- or five-lobed. The cluster is medium-sized, cylindrical-conical in shape, and semi-dense. The berries are medium, spherical, and covered with thick and firm waxy skin of black-purple color. The variety prefers loose calcareous-clayey sunny soils and training in the form of low trellises.

Wines from this variety possess an intense ruby-red color and aging potential. The flavor profile is characterized by notes of wild berries, plum, black pepper, musk, as well as spicy and balsamic shades. The wines are distinguished by their body, dry taste, good acidity, and perceptible tannins.
