The variety is a wine grape cultivar with a late ripening period. Morphologically, it is identical to "black" Carignan, with the exception of the skin color of the berries, which have a light shade and medium size.
The plant possesses natural drought tolerance, however, it is characterized by low resistance to diseases, in particular powdery mildew and grey mold. The vine is distinguished by moderate vigor, and control of yield is required to obtain high-quality wine material.
Wines from this variety possess high acidity and notes of citrus and flowers. Due to limited distribution, mainly in the south of France, the variety is used more often in blends than as a varietal wine.
