Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety has ancient origins and is distributed in the Friuli region. It is genetically related to the Refosco nostrano variety and is a "parent" of several Hungarian varieties. In the name, the letter "N." stands for "Nero" (black), which indicates the color of the berries. It has a number of synonyms, including Canore, Canorie, Chianorie, Cianoria, Rossarie, and Vinosa.

Intended exclusively for winemaking. Historically valued for the delicate character of wines with a pink hue, modern wines from this variety are classified as red. The variety suffered from phylloxera and downy mildew, but detailed modern data on disease resistance are unavailable.
