The variety was obtained in 1953 and is the result of a genetic cross between Carignan and Cinsaut varieties. It is officially included in the French grape variety catalog, however, its cultivation areas are extremely small, which limits available information on yield and product quality.

Plant identification includes specific morphological features: the tip of the young shoot is covered with dense prostrate hairs, young leaves have a yellow color, and adult leaves are characterized by large size, rounded shape, and the presence of seven or nine lobes.
