The variety is mid-season and is characterized by high yield. The plant features vigorous growth and is susceptible to powdery mildew. The berries have a thick skin rich in polyphenols.
The grapes are used for the production of port, still, and sparkling wines, often in blends to provide the drinks with aromatic depth, softness, and volume. The wines possess a floral aroma with notes of lemon, white peach, pineapple, and melon, and have moderate acidity.
