The variety is the result of a clonal selection program aimed at improving biological characteristics, increasing product quality, and preserving the genetic diversity of the original Furmint variety. The designation P.1 denotes the breeding number of the clonal line assigned by the institute in Pécs.

The plant belongs to wine grape varieties. The morphological characteristics of the clone correspond to the classic Furmint variety. The clone was selected primarily based on qualitative oenological parameters and yield indicators, rather than for increased disease resistance.
