The Furmint variety is an autochthonous Hungarian variety, genetically related to Gouais blanc. It belongs to the late maturity group. Leaves are five-lobed, round or pentagonal in shape. Bunches are often large, dense, cylindrical, with wings.

Berries have a thick skin, which leads to a susceptibility to noble rot Botrytis cinerea. The variety is sensitive to winter and spring frosts and has a high susceptibility to downy mildew and powdery mildew. It is a wine grape variety with high acidity and the ability to accumulate high sugar levels, used for the production of dry, sparkling, and sweet wines.
