The variety is the result of a natural crossing of the Sylvaner and Roter Veltliner varieties. It has an early ripening period, which is reflected in its name. Wines produced from this variety have a golden-yellow color, and moderate alcohol and acidity content.
The plant is sensitive to downy mildew, powdery mildew, botrytis, as well as frost and excessive humidity. Currently, planting areas are declining; the variety is cultivated mainly in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, and is found in Germany under the name Früher roter Malvasier.
