Variety description

The variety is a descendant of the Sangiovese variety and belongs to the mid-to-late ripening period. The vines have above-average vigor. Leaves are medium-sized, pentagonal, deeply incised, five-lobed, with no pubescence on the underside.

Bunches are cylindrical-conical in shape, small or medium, and dense, which makes the variety susceptible to grey mold. Berries are small, round or slightly oval, dark blue in color with a thick waxy bloom. The yield of the variety is usually low.

The plant is adapted to the dry and hot climate of Sicily and tolerates spring frosts well. The wine grape variety is used both for blending and for the production of single-varietal wines, which are characterized by a low level of tannins and aromas of red berries, flowers, and spices.
