The name translated from Greek means "strawberry". Various local variations may be hidden under this name, such as red Fraoula Kokkini or white Fraoula Aspri, with the variety Vasilissa being a synonym for the latter.
Fraoula Kokkini ripens in late September. The leaf is large, rounded, five-lobed, medium dissected, with no pubescence on the underside. The flower is hermaphroditic. The plant is classified as a table or wine variety, being a cultivar of Vitis vinifera.
