The variety originated from a natural cross between Traminer and an ancient variety found in St. Georgen. In the past, it was known as Weißgipfler and Grüner Muskateller. The leaf is five-lobed, deeply dissected, with light pubescence on the underside; the tip of the young shoot has white felt-like pubescence. Shoots grow vertically, with short internodes.
Bunches are medium-sized, often with a wing, and dense. Berries are medium-sized, round, green-yellow in color, acquiring brownish or golden hues upon full ripening. The skin is of medium thickness. The variety is demanding regarding growing conditions and requires crop load regulation to maintain wine quality.
The purpose of the variety is the production of white wines with high acidity, notes of green apple, citrus, pear, wildflowers, mineral undertones, and a characteristic white pepper aroma.
