Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is grown in the Carpathian Basin, with its historical center being the Badacsony region. The name translates as "blue stem," which is associated with the characteristic hue of the leaf petioles. DNA studies indicate the origin of the variety as a result of a natural cross between the Vulpea variety and an unknown parent species.

The plant has a functionally female flower type and requires the presence of pollinator varieties. The variety is sensitive to weather conditions and drought, and is prone to flower abortion, which leads to unstable yields. It exhibits resistance to frost and Botrytis cinerea, but is susceptible to downy mildew.

Wines from this variety are characterized by high acidity, minerality, and full body. The aroma profile is dominated by floral notes, hints of stone fruits, and citrus; upon aging, tones of honey and dried fruits emerge.
