Variety description

Kéknyelű is an autochthonous variety resulting from a natural cross between the Vulpea variety and an unknown parent. The name of the variety translates as "blue stalk," which is due to the characteristic bluish tint of the plant's leaf petioles.

The variety belongs to technical, late-maturing types. Flowers are of a functionally female type, which requires other varieties, such as Budai Zöld, for pollination. The variety is characterized by low yield.

The plant is sensitive to downy mildew and flower/fruit drop, while showing resistance to grey mold and frost. Wines produced from this grape have a high aging potential and pronounced mineral and smoky shades.
