The variety has several names, such as Blaue Zimmettraube or Prava črnina, and is an important subject of genetic conservation. Studies confirm its status as an autochthonous variety that has historically been frequently confused with other grape varieties.

The plant has a functionally female flower type; therefore, the presence of pollinators is necessary for a full harvest. The variety is grown in a temperate continental climate and is used as a wine grape, and less often as a table grape. The wines produced from it are characterized by moderate acidity and good structure.
