Molinara is an autochthonous grape variety originating from the Veneto region. The vines are vigorous with perfect flowers. The leaves are large, weakly dissected, with a wide open petiole sinus. The bunches are medium or large in size, loose, and elongated-conical. The berries are medium-sized, round, reddish-purple in color, and covered with an abundant waxy bloom.
The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group. It is characterized by high and stable yield. It possesses medium resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, high resistance to gray mold and Botrytis, but is sensitive to flower abortion.
It is used exclusively in winemaking as a component of blends. The grapes have low color intensity and moderate tannins, imparting freshness and high acidity to finished wines. Due to the tendency of the wines to oxidize quickly, the planted area of the variety tends to decrease.
