The Fernão Pires variety is a wine grape used for the production of dry white and sparkling wines, as well as distillates. The plant has high vigor and yield, and belongs to the early ripening group. Genetically, it is a natural hybrid of Malvasia Fina and an unknown variety.

The plant is sensitive to powdery mildew and drought, which can cause leaf drop and shriveling of the berries. Wines made from this grape are distinguished by a profile with notes of exotic fruits, orange blossom, and linden. Due to the rapid decrease in acidity during ripening, adherence to harvest timing is critical.
