Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety originates from the Laconia region in the southern Peloponnese and is historically associated with the city of Monemvasia. Despite its name, it is not genetically related to the Malvasia family of varieties. The vine possesses high vigor, yield, drought tolerance, and disease resistance, and is well-adapted to cultivation on mountain terraces.

Wines from this variety are characterized by medium body and moderate acidity. Their aroma is dominated by notes of citrus, apricot, and white flowers, as well as mineral and spicy undertones. The grape is a key component for the production of wines in the Monemvasia-Malvasia style, where its content must be at least 51%.
