Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is native to Penedès and was long considered extinct after the phylloxera epidemic, until it was rediscovered in 1998. The plant possesses high resistance to drought and heat, which makes it promising under modern climatic conditions.

Moneu belongs to late-maturing varieties with a long vegetative cycle. It is characterized by small, loose clusters and spherical dark violet-red berries with thick skin. The variety has a functionally female flower type.

The grapes are used for the production of red wines, which are distinguished by an intense aroma with notes of ripe fruit, cherry, spices, and balsamic nuances. Taste characteristics include freshness, elegance, notable acidity, and a moderate alcohol level.
