Variety description

10 August 2026

Montonega is genetically related to the Parellada variety and is often considered its specific clone. The berries of the variety have pink skin, they are small in size with thick skin, which gives the wines a special texture.

The variety is grown in high-altitude areas at an altitude of up to 800–810 meters above sea level in a temperate climate. The yield of the variety is low, about 4500 kg/ha, which leads to its gradual replacement by the Parellada variety.

Montonega is a wine grape variety used for the production of still and sparkling wines, including in the pet-nat style. The wines are characterized by high acidity and freshness with notes of white fruits, citrus, herbaceous, mineral and marine shades.
