The variety is ancient and is grown almost exclusively in the communes of Tramonti, Ravello, and Scala in the province of Salerno. The name of the variety is linked to the phenomenon of acinellatura, in which berries of normal size and very small berries, resembling peppercorns, are present in the cluster simultaneously.
Leaves are medium-sized, pentagonal, and five-lobed. Clusters are conical-pyramidal in shape, often winged, and loose. Berries are small or very small, elliptical, and yellow-green in color with a waxy bloom. The variety is mid-season maturing with low yield.
Due to the loose structure of the cluster and thick berry skin, the variety possesses resistance to gray mold, but is sensitive to other diseases. Wines from this variety have a straw-yellow color and a fruit-floral aromatic profile.
