The variety has a spontaneous origin and is known by the historical synonym Uva della Madonna. Genetically, it is one of the parents of the Malvasia nera di Bolzano variety, obtained as a result of a cross with the Schiava gentile variety.
The berries of the variety have a yellow-green color. The variety was identified using microsatellite analysis and morphological traits. The use of the variety in winemaking is limited to small quantities in blends, including those for certain types of sparkling wines.
