The variety has ancient origins in the Campania region. The name is associated with the red color of the pedicels, which resemble a pigeon's foot. The plant is noted for very high growth vigor; shoots are powerful. It is traditionally cultivated on pergolas, and the Guyot system is also used.

The leaf is medium, rounded, five-lobed, with a velvety underside. The cluster is medium or large, loose, and cylindrical-conical in shape. The berry is round, dark blue, almost black, with a thick waxy bloom, tough skin, and juicy pulp.

The variety belongs to the medium or early-medium maturity groups; harvest falls in the second ten-day period of October. It possesses very high productivity. It is resistant to powdery mildew, while exhibiting susceptibility to downy mildew.
