The variety is autochthonous to northwestern Italy and is historically distributed in the Liguria region and northern Tuscany. Genetically, it originated from the natural crossing of the Sciaccarello variety with an unknown variety.
Bunches are medium or large in size, compact, and often "winged". Berries are medium-sized, round or slightly elliptical, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom. Leaves are medium or small in size, three- or five-lobed.
The variety is characterized as high-yielding and stable, however, it does not possess high resistance to diseases. Wines from this variety are distinguished by a ruby color, moderate tannins, fresh acidity, and fruit notes.
