The variety originates from the Bordeaux region, where it was known as Sauvignon vert, after which it spread throughout northeastern Italy and Slovenia. Despite the name, it is not genetically related to the Sauvignon Blanc variety.
The leaves of the variety are dark green, three-lobed, and medium-sized. The clusters are cylindro-conical, ranging from medium-density to dense. The berries are small or medium, round in shape, with thin skin and a waxy bloom, which makes the variety sensitive to fungal diseases and gray mold.
The variety is characterized by stable yields, requiring regulation to achieve high berry quality. Wines from this variety are distinguished by their full-bodied nature, elegant structure, and aromatic notes of citrus, apricot, and flowers.
