Variety description

10 August 2026

Savignin Rose is a pink mutation of the ancient Savagnin variety and belongs to the Traminer family. Historically, the variety is grown in Alsace, where it is known as Klevener de Heiligenstein, and is also found in Baden and other parts of Central Europe.

The variety is early to mid-season. Its clusters and berries are small, berry color varies from light pink to copper-red, skin is thick. The plant is characterized by low yields, sensitivity to frost, susceptibility to flower abortion, and susceptibility to powdery mildew and Botrytis.

The grapes are intended exclusively for wine production. Unlike Gewürztraminer, it does not possess an intense muscat aroma. The resulting wines are characterized by freshness and include tones of white flowers, citrus, apple, peach, as well as mineral or spicy notes.
