The variety was bred in 1916 in Germany by breeder Georg Scheu and was initially designated as Seedling 88. Genetic studies have confirmed that the parent forms of the grape are the Riesling and Bukettraube varieties.

The plant has high yield, resistance to winter frosts, drought, and calcareous soils. The leaves are medium-sized, round, and deeply lobed. The bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical in shape, and often have a wing. The berries are round, yellow-green in color.

To obtain high-quality produce, the variety requires reaching full maturity. The grapes are used to create a wide range of white wines, from dry to dessert, characterized by a pronounced aroma of grapefruit, passion fruit, and blackcurrant.
