Variety description

10 August 2026

The Sklava variety is an indigenous Greek grape from the Peloponnese. Its vines are distinguished by high tolerance and the ability to bear fruit in poor, dry soils. In a historical context, it was used in blends with the Agiorgitiko variety, and it is currently used to create high-quality white wines with a pronounced aromatic profile.

The plant has hermaphroditic flowers. Large wedge-shaped leaves have deep lobes and cobwebby pubescence on the underside. The bunches are large, cylindro-conical in shape, and of medium density. The berries are medium-sized, oval, pale green with a pink hue when ripening in the sun, covered with a thin skin, and contain juicy flesh.

The variety belongs to the medium ripening group, maturing approximately two weeks earlier than the Agiorgitiko variety. In official European catalogs, the variety is classified as a white grape under the designation Sklava B. At present, the crop is cultivated on limited areas.
