Trebbiano represents a group of about thirty different grape variations. The variety is considered ancient, its history can be traced back to the Roman Empire, and its origin is linked to the eastern Mediterranean. In France, where it was brought in the 14th century, the variety is known as Ugni Blanc.
Most varieties are characterized by high and stable yields. The variety has a good ability to adapt to diverse soil types and climatic conditions. Morphological features using the Trebbiano Romagnolo variety as an example include rounded five-lobed leaves, medium or large conical clusters, and juicy greenish-yellow berries.
Wines from Trebbiano are most often characterized as neutral, light, and with high acidity. The variety rarely possesses pronounced aromatics, which is why it is often used in blends to provide freshness, as well as a base raw material for the production of brandy, cognacs, Armagnacs, and balsamic vinegars.
