The variety is an ancient autochthon of the Veneto region in Italy. It is genetically identical to the Verdicchio variety and does not belong to the Trebbiano family, despite the name. Synonyms for the variety include Trebbiano di Lugana, Trebbiano di Verona, and Turbiana.

The plant has an early ripening period with harvest in early September and is characterized by low productivity. Morphologically, it is characterized by medium-sized berries and adaptability to a temperate climate.

Wines from this variety have a straw-yellow color and aromas of white flowers, citrus, green apple, almond, and herbs. The product is valued for its pronounced freshness, bright acidity, and characteristic "salty" minerality.
