The variety was obtained by crossing the varieties Castets and Abouriou noir. The flower is hermaphroditic. The bunches are medium-sized, cylindro-conical or conical, medium-dense or dense. The berries are medium-sized, rounded, and dark blue.

The variety is distinguished by late bud burst, which protects it from spring frosts, but it is sensitive to winter frosts. Suitable for cultivation in the warmest wine-growing regions. The yield is 10–15 t/ha, and the harvest usually takes place in mid-October.

Wines from this variety possess high extract, tannin content, and intense color. Flavor and aroma properties include characteristic notes of paprika; the wines are suitable for aging in barriques. The variety is also used in scientific research due to the peculiarities of its genetic structure.
